Weighing more than 3,000 tons, it developed over one million pounds of thrust and was the largest and most awesome rocket ever created. On the morning of July 16, 1969, Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin ?Buzz? Aldrin and Michael Collins were perched atop a mighty SATURN V launch vehicle in preparation for their historic journey to the barren lunar surface.
